LOS ANGELES, CA - (January 20, 2007 DMPR) - The scene was Las Vegas, Saturday January 13th...Inside the cavernous Mandalay Events Center, an air of expectancy pulsed through the crowd. No one was prepared for what might happen next, as the once "industry only" AVN Awards had now become open to the public. But any apprehensions were soon laid to rest, as over 7,000 members of the mainstream and adult communities watched as Wicked Pictures contract personality jessica drake and comedian Jim Norton deftly hosted what's now been confirmed as the largest AVN Awards Show event of all time. For jessica though, the night would take on even greater resonance, as one of the evening's first presentations saw her receiving Best Actress - Film for her bravura performance in Brad Armstrong's turbo-charged action spectacular Manhunters. It would be the first of many wicked victories throughout the evening.
The pace continued to pick up throughout the evening, and by the end of the night, Wicked had received 15 major trophies, with Brad Armstrong's stylish films Manhunters and FUCK accounting for 12 of the wins.
An explosive look at sexy bounty hunters and the dangerous world they inhabit, Manhunters led the way as the evening's winner for Best Film. In addition to jessica's Best Actress - Film win, the movie's other major awards included Best Director - Film, Best Screenplay - Film (Brad Armstrong), Best Actor - Film (Randy Spears), Best Supporting Actress - Film (Kirsten Price), and Best Anal Sex Scene - Film, (Jada Fire, Sandra Romain, Brain Surewood).
Also shot on film, Armstrong's elegant erotic vignette release FUCK impressed the critics as well, receiving five major awards, including Best Cinematography (Francois Clousot), Best Art Direction - Film (Rod Hopkins), Best All-Girl Sex Scene - Film (jessica drake, Felecia, Clara G), Best Oral Sex Scene-Film (Ice LaFox, Eric Masterson, Tommy Gunn, Marcus London, Mario Rossi), and Best Group Sex Scene - Film (Carmen Hart, Katsumi, Kirsten Price, Mia Smiles, Chris Cannon, Tommy Gunn, Randy Spears).
The enduring strength of the Wicked Girl brand was recognized in the newly minted Contract Star Of The Year category, with the maiden award going to acclaimed crossover personality and contract actress, director, and writer Stormy Daniels in recognition of her excellent work over the last 12 months.
Turning to the video categories, Michael Raven's haunting alien abduction opus The Visitors received awards for both Best DVD Extras and Best DVD Menus, further validation of the excellent work being done by Wicked's award-winning DVD division.
